The Italian design studio Tipic has introduced a state-of-the-art kitchen countertop that seamlessly integrates smart features like a scale, induction cooking, and a sink that emerges from the surface with effortless motion.
The Tuler kitchen by Tipic is crafted from a granite composite and incorporates cutting-edge technology directly into its design. Inspired by the concept of a laboratory-style workbench, this counter includes a sink that sits level with the surface when not in use, blending perfectly into its sleek appearance. Activated by a motion sensor embedded beneath the stone, a simple hand wave lowers the sink via a piston mechanism while simultaneously triggering the tap to dispense water automatically.
Additional hand gestures allow for adjusting water temperature and flow.
Tipic co-founder Tommaso Cora explained the inspiration behind the innovative design, highlighting the idea of creating a seamless basin that doubles as a work surface. By embedding sensors within the marble or quartz, users can effortlessly uncover the sink using intuitive hand gestures. Cora emphasized how this approach not only enhances cleanliness and usability but also introduces a fresh perspective while utilizing existing technology.
An integrated kitchen scale is another standout feature of the worktop, equipped with pressure sensors to accurately measure ingredients. This is visible as a distinct area marked by a luminous ring on the stone surface. The light transitions from blue to red to indicate weight increments up to two kilograms. Tipic aims to enhance future iterations of this feature by linking it with recipe apps for precise ingredient measurements down to the gram. Additionally, a smaller illuminated area functions as a wireless charging station for smartphones and tablets.
